Leadership Courses
Adirondack Experience
The Adirondack Experience is COE's flagship 6-day Teamwork and Leadership Development course offered annually as a one-credit class for students in the Johnson Graduate School of Management since 1989.
Designed to develop leadership and team effectiveness skills that can be transferred into the workplace, this course starts with two days at Cornell's Hoffman Challenge Course, and then moves to the Adirondack Mountains for outdoor climbing, rappelling, and a peak ascent in the eastern High Peaks region. The core of this course is leadership, and we will spend a significant amount of time reflecting on the various challenges and experiences, and drawing lessons from those concrete experiences. The secret to the success of this course is that every student has the opportunity to be in a leadership role, and to receive extensive feedback from other members of the group.
Led by COE Senior Consultants and staff of the Johnson Graduate School of Management.
Tarzan Meets Gandhi
Tarzan Meets Gandhi combines a classical academic approach to leadership with group and individual physical challenges such as rock climbing, rappelling, and time "on the ropes" at Cornell's world-class Hoffman Challenge Course.
Are leaders born or made? Is leadership different today from what it was a hundred years ago? Is leadership different in the post-9/11 world? We'll consider these questions and also administer the respected Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® to help you know your personality and your preferred leadership style. You don't need to be an athlete to take part, but several rigorous challenges are planned.
Led by COE Senior Consultant David Moriah.
