Student Programs

The Cornell Team & Leadership Center runs a wide variety of programs for student groups. Most programs are 3-4 hours long—sometimes shorter, sometimes longer. Here is a sampling of what we offer:

Our icebreaker activities are short, fun, and tried-and-true over the years. This program can be provided portably at any location, indoors or outdoors, and is usually about 2 hours in length.

Interested in becoming a leader of sustainability initiatives in your community? Passionate about "greening" your group? Participate in our Sustainability Leadership program and spend the day learning how to lead by example and impart sustainability wisdom and ideals to others and save the world, one element at a time! This unique program is generally held at the Hoffman Challenge Course and can be adapted to fit the backgrounds of various participant groups as well as time constraints.

The Teambuilder
icebreaker photo Would you like to take your group or team to the next level? This program consists primarily of low element problem-solving "initiatives"—mentally challenging tasks designed to address leadership, communication, trust, planning, and calculated risk-taking. There will be an opportunity for individuals to consider their role in the group process, and how these tasks relate to other settings. Usually 1/2-day at the Hoffman Challenge Course.

If you like a challenge, this is it! You and your group can try your hand some of the Hoffman Course's 20 high elements. From walking the High Balance Beam to riding the 400-ft zipline, you'll have the opportunity to push yourself beyond your comfort zone. Guaranteed to be an experience you will never forget. 1/2-day or longer.

Raft Regatta Do you like friendly competition? Originally designed for students in the Johnson Graduate School of Management, the raft regatta starts with 300 Styrofoam noodles and ends with teams of 10-15 persons racing their "rafts" across a pool! Ideal for the cold winter days of Ithaca with groups up to 60 people. 1/2-day; offered year-round. Pool is available Saturday mornings, from 10am-1pm, or earlier.

Now You’re Cooking!
COE’s Cornell Team & Leadership Center, continuing with its innovative programming, recently offered an experiential team building programming, using cooking as the “adventure.” Four teams of students, none with much culinary experience, but armed with innovative team names such as “Snow Angels” and “Beasty Bakers,” competed to make the best tasting and presented spring rolls and cookies. At the conclusion of the timed exercise they all got to sit down and, breaking bread together, to debrief about their teamwork, leader and follower roles, communication, and working under stress.

Graham Cracker Construction

(no kitchen facility required)

After a brief demo on Graham Cracker Construction, teams design and build inspired, whimsical, and extraordinary structures.

Get Twisted!

Teams prepare, season, shape and bake pretzels with accompanying dipping sauces of their choosing.

Other Tried all the rest? COE can also provide groups with custom programs in climbing, rappelling, caving, canoeing, gorge traversing, etc. Call for more info.
