Anyone can learn to rock climb and the Lindseth Climbing Wall. Cornell students, faculty, staff, alumnae/i, their immediate family members and guests need only sign a waiver and purchase a wall pass to begin to practice on the wall. Former participants in our rock climbing classes, summer camps, group or private lessons are also allowed to continue developing their skills during open hours. If you are not affiliated with COE or Cornell University, you can begin to use the wall by taking a short climbing lesson

Belayers are not provided during open hours. If you have never climbed before and are interested climbing on rope, you'll need to schedule a climbing lesson. Your instructor will belay for you as you climb and teach you the skills necessary to obtain a belay certification at the wall.

If I already know how to climb do I still need to take a lesson?

Guests

Cornell faculty, staff, students and alumnae/i may bring up to two unaffiliated guest to the climbing walls. Graduates of Private Climbing Lessons or group contracts may not bring guests. Guests may only climb while their Cornell host is present.

CFC Members

Bring proof of CFC membership to COE headquarters (basement Bartels Hall) or wherever CFC passes are sold, and purchase the ultimate fitness pass at the discounted rate.

Belay Certification

Belay certification is required if you wish to belay other climbers. You must pass a belay test to obtain certification. If you are new to climbing you should enroll in a rock climbing course, private climbing instruction seminar, or get help from a friend before taking the belay test. To take a belay test and become belay certified a person must be 13 years of age or older. Belay tests are given everyday during open hours.
