24 + Cross Country Skiing

24 + Cross Country Skiing

Thoroughly enjoy your winter in upstate NY with cross-country skiing. Learn the basics to effectively glide across snow-covered landscapes. Start out with getting comfortable on skis on flat land and progress to learning how to navigate hills and trails on cross-country skis. Explore Ithaca’s local forests and ski trails or travel to Tug Hill Plateau to find some of the most reliable lake effect snow in the region. This is a beginner friendly class and no previous skiing experience is required. Because of the physical nature of this activity, participants should be able to comfortably walk several miles on variable terrain. Stay active this winter, meet new people, and experience the beauty of winter. Transportation, equipment, and instruction are all included. Students will need to provide their own winter attire appropriate for cross-country skiing. Attendance at the first class meeting is required. Class material is taught in a progression, so missing basic skills in the beginning may affect your ability to continue on with the class. Because skiing is snow dependent, it is possible that some classes may be cancelled if there is not enough snow to ski. Students will be offered at least 18-hours of class time, but may not be offered more than this due to snow conditions. The last two days of class are scheduled as full day classes. The longer class time allows for traveling farther to find snow if necessary. However, if there is enough snow to ski locally, these classes may be shortened. Plan to be available for all class sessions and your instructors will keep you informed each week about the status of your class.
