Hiking Courses

Outside your door lie some of the most beautiful and interesting areas in the Northeast. Come hike with us as we visit Ithaca's spectacular gorges and watch the landscape transform as hte seasons unfold. You will start with moderate hikes and focus on familiarizing yourself with the surrounding countryside. We will share our knowledge of the nearby 'hot spots' and teach the outdoor skills necessary to enjoy a day of hiking in any Northeastern forest. You'll have a great time learning skills, natural history, local human history, and exploring the particular pleasures and puzzles of the place where you live. A typical course will cover planning and packing for a hike, dressing for the outdoors, reading maps, compass use, outdoor safety, first aid, on- and off-trail travel, minimum-impact concerns, equipment selection, and natural history of the area.
